I don't know about the gradient in the backdrop, Mujahid. Jpeg compression seems to create bands in it, so I think an even dark-grey or black background would work better.
Are those sand dunes you used as a backdrop? Nice... but the flowers seem to hover over them, which doesn't work really well for me. The basket is ok, but it is very obvious the two flowers (well, 2 copies of one flower) are pasted in.
The light on the flowers and basket is very well handled, I must say. Lovely.

Hello Mujahid!

Simple but beautiful work. I love the luminosity and color balance..

A detailed note would be useful on how you did this montage.

There is one thing bothering me a bit. At a glance it seems you copied the lower right flower and pasted it twice on your sandy surface. Personnally, I think it was not necessary to add these. They just break the natural beauty of the bouquet.

It is said that "proper contrasting turns red-orange into an expression of feverish, belligerent passion. If the orange is deepened to dark brown, the fire of the red flares with a dry heat. It is only in contrast with black that fire red develops its utmost unconquerable, demonic passion." , So In my opinion, leaving the background all dark would be better. Leaving one or three flowers outside is more artistic than two. Very interesting experiment. I will be waiting for your next post. TFS

I am a learner in still life as well. I think you just must make a lot of them and then see what pleases you - for me, I would think one flower next to the basket would be enough, then it would look as if it was fellen of the basket, now it looks as if you put them there.

The light in your pictures is always wonderful.

Your pp work is always very impressive. I can say this is a superb macro of still life. Just a minor comment. Your pp work especially the layer for background - I prefer a full monotone and take away the diagonal part at the right side. The light is just a little UE but still not affecting the overall effect.

Hello Mujahid,

I think you are turning into an artist ... in the painting sense, I mean. This looks very much like a painting. I like darkness behind the basket of flowers but how the light begins to emerge at the r/h side.

Your basket of flowers is beautifully lit and well positioned in the frame. You appear to have copied and pasted two flowers on the surface. That is fine, but I don't feel they would have fallen so parallel and add a little artificiality to the shot. I feel, it would have been better to have free rotated them somewhat. Some notes would have been a great boon my friend, then it is easier to criticise positively.

lovely colors and very good composition. but i think the post-processing is a bit excessive, mannered. that gradient behind looks totally artificial. absence of natural background and lightning flattens the picture. was this flower basket originally taken on send? interesting idea!

hope i don't hurt you. just sharing my honest opinion.

Hi Mujahid,

You nailed the lighting on the flowers! I can see texture on each petal and you really brought the blossoms our from the background.

Unfortunately, that is where I find some fault. You plant has no anchor point, it seems to float above the tabletop and have no interaction with the background. I would love to see what your original photo looked like, I bet it was superb without the replacement background.

To be honest, I'm not a fan of this style where backgrounds and surfaces are exchanged at a whim, so you can take my comments as you see fit. My opinions are colored by my affinity for more in camera control.

My suggestion to you would be to try and master the image with the background as shot before heading on to superimposing on top of new settings.

I still love your lighting on the flowers, though.

Well for a beginer in still life you are very good. I can't wait to see the results when you will say you are getting an expert.
