Golden glow of the Mekong

Took this shot two years ago while traveling through Vietnam.

This was in the late afternoon, traveling towards the Vietnamese-Cambodian border. The sun was still high and back lighting the river and it's trees.

PP work: Adjusted highlights and shadows, increased the brightness and contrast. Cropped to remove the bright sun spot. Adjusted saturation and colours (it was far too bluish). Resized and used smart sharpening to it a more realistic detail. Finally add frame.

N.B. Forget the time as shown in the Exif file, I didn't adjust my camera to the local time in Vietnam.

N.B. II: As Rew wrote the horizon is crooked (about 1 degree). Maybe I will make a Re-post.....maybe not. Anyway there are always things to learn. OK Linda, you may finish me, I'm ready for it :-)

Hans i like the pov and colours in this shot your pp workhas definitley achieved what you wanted very nice atmospheric shot tfs
regards bryan

I like the hues of this shot, it really does seem to be touched with gold.

I can't help noticing though that the far horizon - especially the line of water below the hill-line on the left - seems to be tilted slightly. Is it? Or is it just an illusion?

Wonderful golden tones, wonderful silence.

thanks,
v
ps.I really don't know if is tilted or not even though it seems so ...

Hallo hans.
prachtige compositie en een zeer warme kleur die prachtig overloopt in de wolken.
De glinstering in het water geven een prachtig effect. Als ik dit zie kan ik al genieten laat staan als je het werkelijk ziet en de stilte er bij hoort.
groet Frans

Ciao Hans

amazing shot at sunset. The deepness of POV and the spreading of light and hues are truly magnetic.
Nice reflections in the river between the shapes of trees.

Compliments!

Best Regards

andrea

Hi Hans,

its gold alright..good POV and wonderful capture of sunset effect towards the landscape. But i would have not cropped off the sun a quarter down IMO.

all the best,

jaime

Hi Hans

Good sharpness & reflections. I like the monochromatic golden orange colour. Nice silhouettes of the banana trees & well composed into horizontal quarters. Good cropping of the oe sun. Tfs!

Goeiemiddag Hans,

Mooi gedaan!

TFS Greetings Simone

Could be the helicopter scene of Apocalypse now, exactly the same kind of light,I can almost haer the Wagner music blasting around ;]]
Interesting Hans.

Tsja... die scheve horizon he...

Anneke

Hi Hans,

I like the the effect you achieved with the color saturation (desaturation?). The silhouettes of the trees are nicely captured in this somewhat moody shot. Because of the times I grew up in, Vietnam will always seem a scarey place to me.

Best regards,
Werner

Hi Hans,
I like the post-tratment you did on this landscape. You added at it a glorious golden atmosphere. The crop and panoramic format is very effective too. I like the reflections of trees and the gleam of light on water.
Cheers!
Annie

Hi hans:
You have made a simple scene very beautiful in this capture...I especially like the landscape view to make this panoramic...most excellent!

Hi Hans,
lovely golden colours and I like the composition with just a hint of the sun. Don't beat yourself up over the horizon, I am not so sure. There is an impression that the horizon is sloping on the LHS of the shot but the RHS looks OK, often get this when the the FG is closer at one side. The two banks also add to this impression.
cheers
Jack

Hi Hans
In a week I will also be admiring these views.

Hello Hans,
Indeed the golden glow of the Mekong River is attractive and emphasized. Perhaps the red mud of the river enhanced the glow. I notice that it was cropped or composed just below the sun...it works. (I have stackful of Vietnam pics taken before digital days, and I certainly would like to re-visit). Regards.
Danilo

Hoi Hans,
Groeten,
Niek

Hi Hans, I like the golden glow well portrayed in this river scene. It is certainly a mighty impressive river and life-blood to so many in several countries. The levee bank indicates the presence of people. The sparkling sun, well positioned, is what i especially like in this gorgeous photograph. I have a small feeling there is a slight tilt to the left. Hi Hans,
Thank you for this picture full of ambiance. We play here a table game named "Les dragons de Mékong". Now I will have a more realistic image of that area.
