I would like to continue my theme of interesting People of the world.
Of course everybody is special and interesting - but some things are so new and unreal for us.
For example this beautiful lady.

She's a member of the Kayan, a group of the Karenni people, a Tibeto-Burman ethnic minority of Burma (Myanmar).

The Kayan resident in Mae Hong Son Province in Northern Thailand refer to themselves as Kayan and are offended by the persistent use of the terms “Padaung” or “Long-neck Karen hill tribe”. Padaung (Yan Pa Doung) is a Shan term for the Kayan Lahwi (the group whose women wear the brass neck coils).

Women of the various Kayan tribes identify themselves by their different form of dress. The Kayan Lahwi tribe are the most renowned as they wear ornaments known as neck rings, brass coils that are placed around the neck. These coils are first applied to young girls when they are around five years old.

Each coil is replaced with longer coils as the weight of the brass pushes the collar bone down and compresses the rib cage. Contrary to popular belief, the neck is not actually lengthened; the illusion of a stretched neck is created by the deformation of the clavicle. Many ideas regarding why the coils are worn have been suggested, often formed by visiting anthropologists, who have hypothesized that the rings protected women from becoming slaves by making them less attractive to other tribes.
Contrastingly it has been theorised that the coils originate from the desire to look more attractive by exaggerating sexual dimorphism, as women have more slender necks than men. The coils might be meant to protect from tiger bites, perhaps literally, but probably symbolically.

We saw plenty of these woman - they all had a smile on their face - but I'm not sure if they are happy?!?
But proud ...

Thanks for stopping by.
Sabine

Hi Wishnu,
Beautiful portrait of this interesting woman, the colours and focus are great and the shallow DoF is brilliant. TFS

Hello Sabine,
Mae Hong Son is indeed a must travel stop in Thailand. I had ambivalent feelings when I first saw the Kayan women wearing these neck ornaments. It is a fascinating portrait, the tech settings chosen appear optimum in rendering this well framed image. Best regards
Danilo

Hi Sabine,
Very interesting photo ! Its a strange culture in which people do this with their neck, isn't it?
Very good capture with super colors and clearness.
Joop!
p.s.: the people are happy, but they feel we are not as impressed as they are about the neck coils.

Hallo Sabine,
Interessante sicht auf Schönheit. Model ist sehr interessant, Bemalung ehe spielerisch. Der Hammer ist diese ungewöhnliche hals schmuck.Liebe Grüße Siegfried

Every time I see a woman like this I also wonder if they are really happy.... can they be? I mean... their neck has been stretched over the years and they cannot live without the brass coils anymore! I have been told that they cannot hold their heads up without the coils...... I know I wouldn't like that very much.
On the other hand I can understand their pride. Because they ARE beautiful people! Without any doubt!

Anyway, this is a lovely capture and I like the contrasting colors here... and yes, she is beautiful!!!

Cheers,
Anneke
