I have taken this view from the front quarter is not clear.
I share the fact.
La Tour St. Martin, built of local sandstone rubble,
is surrounded by a fortified wall, and is in the middle of a disused cemetery on the hill overlooking the village.

The excavations conducted by Mr. Iker, in 1992-93, we have learned that almost everything that is visible is recent. In the last century, the parish priest, Mr. Bodson has restored the tower and the wall and was placed loopholes to give him a more medieval.

The tower of St. Martin and the cemetery is located around the site of the old church under the old foundations, they found the remains of an ancient cemetery. In the middle of this cemetery was the first church to rise (or chapel) Christian (eleventh-twelfth century according to information provided by the graves).

This first church was razed during construction of the fortress, after the twelfth century.

The early thirteenth century was a turbulent period: Comblain is located on the borders in this important time: Counts of Luxembourg, Liège bishops, abbots of Stavelot had an equal interest in controlling the site.

The entrance to the Tower Abbey Stavelot conflicts with Thierry de Comblain (circa 1212), and the Countess of Luxembourg Ermesinde Comblain captured and looted the village.

In 1277, Comblain returns to the Abbey of Stavelot until 1795.

The gate of the cemetery during this period is more peaceful, a second church was built on the site, replacing the fortress that has probably not survive more than a few decades.

This church, built probably at the end or after the thirteenth century, as the bell tower was destroyed in the nineteenth century.

Hi john

The fg structure is intriguing. At first I thought it was a modernistic stone sculpture. Now I think it might be a tree trunk, with branches sawn off, that resemble eyes. Good colour & sharpness throughout & well managed backlighting. Tfs. Bon weekend!
