Hello my friends. This Grey Heron was captured yestarday at River Suir. In a very short time she caught four fishes, not bad at all.

From: birdsofbritain.co.uk

Gaunt grey herons are among the most familiar of our local water birds. Fresh or salt, clear or muddy each is acceptable so long as it will yield something worthwhile.

The bird doesn't always wait for quarry but stalks through the shallows with long deliberate strides, neck muscles tensed for spearing.

Eventually a fish will pay the price of carelessness as the heron's kinked neck is straightened with startling speed and the sharp bill stabs its prey - sometimes several times. At Breydon, herons also known in Norfolk as the marshmen's harnser, will wade until the body is afloat.

Hello Wojciech,

Talking about a spot-on depth of focus! Vey sharp this is!
There is a slight motion blur in the little fish though hahaha ;-). Think the little fellow was fighting for his life - but probably did not succeed in the end...
But a very nice photographical catch this is. These birds normally don't sit around, waiting for you to take pictures. :-)

Greetings,
Dennis

Witam,

Hi Wojciech,
You have some wonderful colour saturation in this photograph. It caught my eye, so that I had to see the full size version.
I did not know that the Herons kept their necks like that to be prepared to catch their prey.
I like the frame around the picture. Had you considered (or can you) add one or two smaller frames inside the white frame in a light and medium grey. I think that would pick up the colours of this magnificent bird, giving it a bit more, wow.
TFS,
Clive
