As I drove home from 'Festival City' I saw the 'Burj Dubai' poking it's head up through the clouds. Stopped and got this shot - a single RAW file converted into 4 differently exposed images and merged HDR to get this..

The 'Burj Dubai' is the tallest building in the world at nearly 850m high!! It dwarfs everything around it..

Nice sunset last night - very humid though and these low clouds were fog by sunrise this morning..

1/50 sec at f8, ISO 100.

Hi David

Superb sharpness with good warm cold colour contrasts, between the yellow & blue. The Burj certainly dwarfs everything around it. Tfs!

Hello David!
Beautiful sky ower Dubai!
Excellent metalic colours!
Great work, like always!
Best regards!
Lili

Hi David,
An amazing sunset, very unusual, the sky seems in fire - a big bonfire from behind the tall buildings.
A nice reflection on the water!
A great mixture of mood between warm and cool!
I like the low clouds navigating amidst the skyscrapers.
A pleasant presentation.
Best regards,

Francis Xavier

Good Morning David,

Now, that's what I call having your head in the clouds!
Lovely composition.
The sky is beautiful and creates a lovely reflection in the water. Love how the sharp buildings are blue. It gives the whole shot a very science fictiony feel.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Yeah, that was a nice sunset! Love the blue/grey hue of everything on shore. Nice placement of the sun just poking out between those buildings - nicely composed shot overall.
Crazy tall building!!
Trudy

Hi David,
What a lovely shot. Good that you stopped to take this one! Very rare to see a building poking its head through clouds like this. I can see that Dubai skyline is going to be famous as that of NYC.
Sunil

What a mega-structure!!! This is an amazing piece of archi-engineering I have ever seen and the HDR treatment really creates depth and clarity to emphasize the scale of this building. Wonderful shot!

Dilshan

outstanding photo David... being a pilot precision is always a must... and as I see you always carry that on your photos... well composed... well processed... well exposed... wonderful work... TFS

Hi David,

Beautiful view and great colours! The clouds give a beautiful contrast between nature and building. Very well done!

TFS Greetings Simone

Hi David...great shot..wonderful tones and details...excellent.

Roger

Bonjour David,

Slendid city scape with a marvelous sky, taken with your "fetish" w-a zoom lens. Nothing negative in this adjective, it is in fact an extension of your vision and you do master well negative effects this lens can eventually have if not used properly. Excellent exposure rendering great details in shadows without burning out the sky highlight. The blue cast in the shadows intensify the warmth of the setting sun. And the tower percing true the clouds reveal the "grandeur" of the constructions in Dubai. Beautifull shot

Hi David,

Wonderful capture of the Dubai's skyline with golden rays of the sun!
The water makes great wonders here. The sharpness and POV are perfect with blue tones of the colors of the buildings and the golden sky.

Very well seen.

best regards,
Paras

Hi David,
Spectacular this cloud surrounding the 'Burj Dubai'!
The HDR treatment from a single image did a great job! The view on the city is almost surrealistic!
I like the soft blue tones on the big buildings which contrasts so well with the golden cloud's formation.
Annie

This is a wow shot, I have to say. The Burj Dubai is an unreal structure anyway, but your capture of it poking its (no apostrophe) head through the clouds gives it the look of those 1960s-70s science fiction artworks that used to capture my imagination.

The setting sun on the left is a great balancing touch to the shot and I can barely see where the HDR has happened.

Frame is good but I think you should add the frame after you have resized and sharpened the image: the edge of the frame has been sharpened and left ghost-lines of white pixels along its edges.

Rew

David,

Terrific shot! Simply an awesome job of hdr work. I like how the building is through the clouds as it really accentuates that it is the highest building in the world. Also, the sky is outstanding; the blue against the golden clouds is great. Glad you caught the sun peeking between the two buildings. All and all a terrific one. Lisa

Hi David

Very interesting to me seeing tallest worl structure through your lens!
Good HDR with nice details and perfect image quality
As you shoot directly to the sun, the gray color covered the building (I wish you took it at sunrise)

hello david :)

i used to take photos in dubai with the same spirit as you do.

i agree with rew on sharpening, though i love the cinematic black frame, giving it a movie like look. your image is a bit too saturated for my liking, but it still works, i love the fact that you took the shot at the right moment when the clouds were low.

i dont think it would have packed so much appeal without the clouds.

muhammad muhsin

Wonderful David, this is where HDR really shines and so is the sun in this photo. The contrast between the steely blue/cold buildings and the warm glow of the sun is really great. Well done.

Not much to talk about the landscape,
because it already speaks for itself!
The beauty of the colors of the sky is fabulous!
I always liked the HDR, it reinforces the
