If there is a must-see attraction near Mexico City it is the archaelogical zone Tehotihuacan , 50 kms northeast of the mexican metropolis .This is the site of the huge Pyramids of the Sun and Moon .Teotihuacan was Mexico's biggest ancient city and probably the capital of Mexico 's largest pre-Hispanic empire .Exploring the site can be awesome , if you don't let the hawkers get you down.
It's a huge site covering more than 20 sq km , most of what visitors see today lies along nearly 2 km of the Calzada de los Muertos ( Avenue of the Dead ).
This photo was taken from the top of the last structure at the north end of the avenue , the imposing Pyramid of the Moon , the view is down on some of the temple platforms surrounding the aptly named Plaza de la Luna in front of the pyramid itself. The presence of the man shows scale and gives a sense of the size of the enormous platforms , imagine how large the pyramid we were standing on can be!
The sun was out , at a balmy 22c just the perfect day to visit but the hawkers will find you wherever you are though they can be persistent , say pestilential at times and they can be persuasive just as much ! Anyway this site is a highlight of any trip to the Central Valley of Mexico, i swear !
ISO 80 , F/8.0 AT 1/125 s , converted to BW , played with shadows , sharpened a tad , framed ,

this is grate
nice tonal range and details of the site
a grate scale with the man show well the size of the monument
nice "graphism" with the repetition of stairs
a neat presentation and a grate POV

Hi Carol,

This is a perfect example of why it is good to include the human element in a photo. Without him, I would not really have an idea of the size of the platforms. I like how the entire frame is composed of various levels of the platforms and steps. There appears to be no end to the amount of platforms located at this historical site. The black and white are perfect for this shot. To me, it really gives the feeling of going back in time. :) Lisa

Hi, Carol -
This is exceptional! Incredible architecture, the man provides a sense of of the immensity. Very sharp details with perfect exposure - the bright sun and deep shadows emphasize the strong graphic lines and shapes, and also convey the texture of the surfaces. Great choice of b&w for this one. It's going into my favorites. Well done!

Esta es una de las mejores fotos de Teotihuacán que he visto en mucho tiempo. hay juego de luces, de sombra y de texturas. Y como dice Lisa el lemento humano le da la proporción magnífica.

Carol, hi there!! Great shot! Love all the geometric shapes in this shot .. the diagonal lines, the squares, the shadows, the light ... I think you accentuated it all really well with the sharp contrast. I think the contrast has given the shot a very artistic look.
Also, as everyone else has said, the person is a perfect addition here .. it really would be hard to imagine the size of these structures without him/her.
