Helen, the grayish female gorilla in the background was 42 at the time of this photo. She was brought to the Louisville Zoo in 2002 on loan from the Lincoln Park Zoo. Love those dark eyes! She was keeping watch over one of the younger male gorillas at this shoot. Forty-two is old for a gorilla. I believe she is still alive, and is even more gray now than in this photo. Don't know who the youngster was. Gorillas are such fascinating animals, almost human acting at times! I spent hours upon hours watching them when they were first brought to Louisville. There are now 11 of them in our Zoo. I hope to get out next spring and shoot more of them. Thanks for viewing.

Hi Joe,

I love to watch them too. I have a gorilla photo to post at some point that I captured in Orlando. He a big silver-back gorilla, and looked mean. I have a friend who looks like one, but I'm not talking about you.:)

Awesome DOF here, and clarity like a plasma TV.

I saw a documentary on gorillas once. A baby died, and the female gorilla carried it around for days. The most amazing thing I saw was a crock got a baby monkey of some type, and one of the adults jumped in the water beating the crock and actually saved the baby's life. ...cool stuff.

MAD good shot, Joe!
The light and contrast are perfect, beautiful clear color, great expression. She looks like a grandma watching a toddler. (Hmmm... LOL) They really are cool animals. Have you ever seen the video of the gorilla that carried the little boy to safety after he fell in one of their enclosures? Man, I cried.. :)) That's a great photograph. Many thanks and my very best wishes,
Shelly

Nice shot Joe - you've got the expression on the gorilla at the back just right - wondering what the heck the other one is up to!!

Nice colour too - we don't see too much lush green grass over here!!

DAVid

PS - the rainbow shot of mine where you were asking why I desaturated everything but the rainbow was because it was the Friday theme 'partial desaturation' :-)

Hi Joe...
