I have been outside in the garden today, taking a few shots with my Nikon 60mm Micro lens. I love macro shots when they work, as they end up as a complete transformation from how the subject looked to the normal eye.

This was shot with flash, using a double thickness of kitchen towel fixed over the flash head with rubber bands acting as a home made diffuser. I found that I still needed to adjust the flash by -0.7ev, and also the exposure between -0.7ev and -1.3ev to avoid blasting out the subject.

This is a very tight crop from a full frame shot of some dandelion heads.

In PS I adjusted the overall curves and levels, selected the dark background and added a gausian blur to it, then selected the body of the fly and increased its sharpness,saturation and contrast.
