Rather large species with a scale which reaches 42 to 48 Misters the top is brown dark velvety black, with ocelles blacks. The lower part is brown with a series d' ocelles ringed blacks of cream-coloured yellow. The ocelles ones are pupils of white. There exist several forms of which the form ab. edge: on the lower face, the ocelles ones disappeared and there remains the white pupil. The sexes are identical. C' is one of rare Rhopalocères to steal even lorsqu' it rains. Only one generation. The period of flight s' extends from mid-June to at the beginning of August. Wintering at the 4th larval stage. The eggs are laid and one by one released on the ground. The caterpillar is active d' August at end-May. The chrysalis is in driving position, head in top, in a loose cocoon of sheets silk the graminaceous ones and wire. The color of the caterpillar is gray brownish, hairy.

Brauner Waldvogel - das ist ein so hübscher Name für ihn, gefällt mir sehr - ich kann mich nicht erinnern ihn schon mal gesehen zu haben.
Muß meine Augen diesen Sommer offen halten ...
