Madeira is a 50 km by 20 km volcanic island off the northwest coast of Africa, between the Azores and Canary Islands. It is famous for its wines, flowers and hiking along levadas. Levadas are aquaducts that direct rainwater from the wetter side of the island to the dry side. The scenery, people, food and accommodation are great and I would recommend this destination. Kev and I traveled to Madagascar in mid-September to early-October 2008.
Our first stop in Madagascar was Isle Sainte Marie to watch Humpback Whales.
